Take No Thought for Your life
Matthew 6:25 (KJV)
 
      Staying with our analogy of intercession already used once before, picture rebellious children playing in the middle of a bull ring. A snorting bull enters the ring to attack. Attempting to give his children a chance to escape, the father rushes between the bull and his children, knowing full well he cannot win.
      This father will only find such courage if his children are more important to him than his own life. If he hesitates for one minute the children will be killed.
      The Bible gives a number of ultimatums that force us to make a choice. There is no middle ground. These issues must be decided before you enter the arena of intercession:
  • You cannot serve two masters.
  • You reap what you sow.
  • A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
  • Daily deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me.
  • Choose you this day whom you will serve.
      Only the right choice will equip you to face the forces of darkness. Jesus reached deep into our hearts, exposing why we fail. He said, "Take no thought for your life." The Greek word for "thought" went beyond a passing idea to mean a thought that makes you tremble. Jesus literally said, "Take no anxious thought for your life."
      Anxious thoughts abound: Will life work out for me? Do people see my importance? Will I have enough money all my life? Will I have a peaceful death? The list is endless.
      Jesus boiled down our "anxious thoughts" and dumped them into two categories: Food and clothing. The first is survival and the second well-being. Yes, these are important areas, but "anxious thoughts" about them reveals your lack of trust in God's promises of care.
      You will shrink before the "bull" if you are not committed to a value greater than your life. Jesus said three things will hinder selfless valor: ". . . cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things . . ." (see Mark 4:18-19).
      What alternative does Jesus offer? This! ". . . seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). In short, no power exists that can oppose you when your priorities line up with God.
      To overcome the devouring bull of hell, you must throw self-absorbed, anxious thoughts to the wind. Repent of them! Fix your heart and mind on things above.
      When God's kingdom and righteousness are of greater value than your life, you will find both the courage and authority to enter the arena, stand between the "bull" and our lost world and see the Lord of hosts gain the victory.
      Have you heard the urgent call to intercession? Has your time come to rise up and confront the foe? Will you be found in the middle of the arena with Jesus at your side?
