It is my sincere hope that you will not feel that I am less involved in your life by talking to you through a DVD and manual. I am giving to you the best information I know, whether it be in person or through this video series. Even if you were sitting across from my desk, having a face-to-face counseling session, you would have to do the same thing when you left my office as you will when you finish this course . . .  apply this material!

Unfortunately, the one thing that is lost by not meeting with you in person is my sharing in the joy you will experience as God works His truth in your life as you  apply this information. I sincerely hope you will take the time to write to me and share how God has been using this series in your life.

Socrates said, Know thyself. The fact is that many people go through life never understanding what makes them think and feel the way they do. We all experience the Apostle Paul’s feeling of bewilderment described in Romans chapter seven: For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing (vs. 18b-19).  The main difference between Paul and the majority of people is that Paul clearly understood the cause of the struggle, as well as the solution.

Early in this series, we deal with the “Line of Reality” or normalcy. This will give us a standard to follow. We need to understand God’s original intention for us.

Then we will look at where we are from a biblical perspective. We will see the severe complexity of problems that have and can enter our lives as a result of sin from within or from the sin of others.

Finally, we will see the biblical solution. It will be the same one found by the Apostle Paul.

I have come to realize that the majority of our problems can be resolved by a proper relationship with God. Each of us is on our own unique journey of coming to God’s resolutions to our problems. That path will be quite different for an incest victim, for example, than it will be for a person who experienced a different kind of loss. We must be very sensitive to the unique difficulties each person has in working his or her way to understanding God’s solutions for their lives.

There is an explanation given in this series as to why some may seek God to resolve a particular problem and not find the answer they want immediately. I hope those who are still waiting on the answer will find courage and determination in this section.

May God bless you richly as you Discover the Real You . . .

DISCOVERY TRUTH #1:

God is in the business of character building, not quick-fix solutions to our problems.

DISCOVERY TRUTH #2:

If we evolved from animals, we must look down to the animals to understand our behavior. However, when we turn to the Bible, we discover that that is not the picture at all. Rather, we fell from God and the only way we can understand ourselves is to look up to God and see how far we have fallen.

DISCOVERY TRUTH #3:

The harder you try to feel good about yourself, the more you are focused on self. The more you are focused on self—that, my friend, is idolatry. The more you focus on yourself, trying to feel good about yourself, actually the deeper you go into your problems.

DISCOVERY TRUTH #4:

WELL-BEING: Well-being is an inner peace, a sense of value, a security, a confidence, a purpose, resulting from a proper relationship with God.

DISCOVERY TRUTH #5:

The harder you try to gain well-being or wholeness on your own, the further you will go from it. But when you give up self-effort to gain this, then you are looking to God alone on His terms, then God will do what He promised to do. He will give you that sense of well-being.

DISCOVERYTRUTH #6:

Only by pursuing a relationship with Christ, my Creator, will I find my identity, purpose and wholeness.

DISCOVERY TRUTH #7:

Low self-esteem is generally frustrated self-love.

DISCOVER TRUTH #8:

Personality is only a door through which good or evil flows.

DISCOVER TRUTH #9:

God rarely gives quick-fix solutions.

DISCOVERY TRUTH #10:

The soul grows best in the soil of adversity.

DISCOVER TRUTH #11:

People and events don’t make us what we are, they unmask what we are.

DISCOVER TRUTH #12:

Our natural, fleshly instinct is always ready to blame the other person for what we are doing.

DISCOVER TRUTH #13:

What we worship determines what we are and do.

DISCOVER TRUTH #14:

Every single sin without exception is rooted in self.

DISCOVER TRUTH #15:

Badly hurt people can become God’s greatest works of grace and most useful instruments.

DISCOVER TRUTH #16:

You cannot control the good or bad events that enter your life, only your response.”

DISCOVER TRUTH #17:

You can endure anything provided you have a big enough reason.

DISCOVER TRUTH #18:

Bad experiences will drive you either to the line of low self-esteem or the line of reality (or normalcy). The choice is yours.

DISCOVER TRUTH #19:

You will only be as free to the level and depth of your confession.

DISCOVER TRUTH #20:

The wall you build around the heart to keep out future pain, locks in present and past problems
